Rich Stubler has returned to the Canadian Football League. As sportsnet.ca first reported, the B.C. Lions hired the former Toronto Argonauts head coach Sunday as their new defensive line coach.

"Rich brings a significant coaching resume to his position with us and I believe he will be a strong asset to our club," said Lions GM and head coach Wally Buono.

Stubler was let go as the Argos head coach in 2008 with a 4-6 record and with the team in second place. Don Matthews came out of retirement to take over but failed to win any of the team's remaining games.

It will be his second stint with the Lions. He helped lead B.C. to a Grey Cup championship in 2000 as the team's defensive coordinator.

Stubler brings a wealth of experience to the Lions. He will work under Mike Benevides, who was in the running for the Argos' head coaching job last year.
