Stampeders draft pick Rob Maver, selected by Calgary fifth overall in Sunday's Canadian College draft, will try out with the Atlanta Falcons.

The dual punter/kicker has received a mini-camp invitation from the NFL club. The 24-year-old will take part in the Falcons workouts, but has received no signing bonus. Atlanta already has veteran kicker Matt Bryant on its roster, as well as Steve Hauschka, who has NFL experience.

The Falcons also have another punter and kicker on their lengthy off-season roster.

Maver was a target of the Stampeders going into the draft, having flown the Brampton, Ont. native in for a private look. The University of Guelph product has yet to sign a deal with Calgary.

Thomas Dimitroff, the Falcons GM, is ironically also a University of Guelph grad.

SISCO TO INDY: Meanwhile, Saskatchewan Roughriders draft pick Jordan Sisco (8th overall) has impressed after a weekend at Indianapolis Colts mini-camp and has received a contract offer from the club. Sisco becomes the third Canadian (along with Sam Giguere and Dan Federkeil) on the Colts roster. Indianapolis also signed former Saskatchewan defensive lineman John Chick during the off-season.

JAMARCUS ON TICATS NEG LIST: Jamarcus Russell, released officially by the Oakland Raiders Thursday, would be Hamilton bound if the embattled quarterback ends up in the CFL. The former No. 1 overall draft pick, arguably the biggest bust in NFL history, was added to the Tiger-Cats negotiation list last weekend. Only 24, Russell will have made $39 million from the Raiders, where he finished with a 7-18 record as a starter.
