TW LW Team Our Take

Memo to the entire Rider nation, please take a deep breath and let the bad air out; it was only one game. Darian Durant suffered through a forgettable performance, throwing four picks as the Riders got their butts whipped in Calgary. Now that their unrealistic dream of a perfect season has been shattered, Ken Miller can go back to work on getting the Riders prepared for next week's game against the Ticats. Despite their loss to the Stamps, the Riders are still the best team in the CFL. Mosaic Stadium will be its usual gong show as the Riders look to take out their frustrations on the Ticats.

Those 5,000 extra seats at Percival Molson Stadium came in handy in the Als win over the Ticats. One of the toughest places to play in the CFL was rocking as Anthony Cavillo survived an injury scare and led the Als to another win on their home turf. Defensively, John Bowman had an incredible game with four sacks and two forced fumbles. With all due respect to the Argos 3-1 record, once again the Als are the best team in the East. Cavillo and the Als will be looking to remind the Argos of that fact when the two teams hook up this week at Percival Molson Stadium.

'Mr. Personality' John Hufnagel owes it to himself to crack a smile and savour the best effort from his team this season. Henry Burris suffered the wrath of his head coach during the game after throwing an end zone pick that was intended for Romby Bryant. But smiling Hank made up for it by tossing four touchdowns, including two to Bryant. It’s interesting to note that after four games, the Stampeders defence has only allowed five touchdowns, the fewest in the CFL.

I don't care if it’s ugly, I don't care how it happened; the fact remains that four games into the 2010 season, the Argos have already matched their win total from all of 2009. From 3-15 last year to 3-1 this year looks awesome if you’re Jim Barker and the Argos. It’s not an accident that a respected former player like Orlando Steinauer has Byron Parker and the Argos secondary playing as well as they are. The big story in Toronto has been the emergence of running back Cory Boyd who became the first Argos running back since Bill Symons in 1968 to have three straight 100 yard games. Big test this week is in Montreal.

Lions fans might be a little ticked off after their loss to the Argos; but what did they really expect with Travis "freaking" Lulay making his first ever CFL start at quarterback? Emmanuel Arceneaux didn't do Lulay or Wally Buono any favours when he dropped a sure touchdown that hit him right in the hands. Buono and the Lions are heading for a classic "trap" game this week in Edmonton. The winless Eskimos are under incredible pressure to get off the schneid.

Ike Charlton and the rest of the Blue Bombers were feeling pretty good about themselves after the beat down they laid on the Eskimos at Canad Inns Stadium. The Bombers off-season acquisition of Steven Jyles paid huge dividends as he got his first start of the year in place of the injured Buck Pierce. Jyles threw one touchdown and then ran in for two more and had the Bombers offence on the move all night. Jyles performance gives Paul LaPolice and the rest of the team a lot of confidence as they wait for Buck Pierce's knee to heal up.

Other than the odd glimpse this year, there is still something missing from Kevin Glenn's game. If Glenn doesn't get dialed in, in a real hurry, Marcel Bellefuille will have no choice but to hand over the reins of the Ticats offence to Quinton Porter. Much like the Eskimos, there was a lot of hype surrounding the Tiger-Cats before the start of the season. Now it is time for this team to start living up to all the hype. Life for Bellefuille and the Ticats is not about to get any easier as they have to take on a very pissed off Riders team in the CFL’s Death Valley, Mosaic Stadium.

If you thought last week was rock bottom for the Eskimos, what in the world do you call that train wreck in Winnipeg Saturday night? Eskimos fans can blame Perry Lefko for this latest loss after he picked them to win in his weekly predictions. The bottom line is that Danny Maciocia and Richie Hall have a lot of explaining to do. For the first time since 1965 - the Eskies have started a season with an 0-4 record. That kind of football just isn't tolerated in a city like Edmonton. If the Eskimos don't beat the Lions next week, there is going to be an all out blood letting in the so called City of Champions.
