Congratulations to Montreal Alouettes’ Ben Cahoon, on becoming the all-time leading receiver in the history of the Canadian Football League.
This is a guy who is all class, on and off the field.
It says something about the player that shortly after he caught his 1.007th career pass, to take over from Terry Vaughn, on Monday against the visiting Calgary Stampeders at Molson Stadium, that the game was stopped to make a presentation.
But what was really impressive is that after he caught the pass, members of the Stampeders defence took time to shake his hand.
Of Cahoon’s career catches, countless ones have come through sheer intelligence, grit and athletic talent, similar to other diminutive slotbacks such as Vaughn and Darren Flutie.
Cahoon learned to master reading defences and finding holes by watching Vaughn and Flutie play, with whom he credited. He has also toughed it out by refusing to back away from some hellacious hits and he has also been featured numerous times with highlight-reel catches.
Cahoon has never been one to trash-talk or embarrass himself or his teammates. He has been a humble warrior, carrying more about team accomplishment than personal goals.
Cahoon is the prototypical undersized Canadian Football League player, but he stands tall for all he is done in his career.
No one deserves the career milestone more than Cahoon, admired by the Als’ fans and respected around the CFL by opposition players and fans.
