The Saskatchewan Roughriders will officially usher in Greg Marshall as their new head coach on Wednesday, while they’ve quietly done some bookkeeping to work out the contract of star quarterback Darian Durant, sportsnet.ca has learned.
Marshall worked as the Hamilton Tiger-Cats defensive co-ordinator the last two years and will succeed Ken Miller, who gave up his post of three years to concentrate on managing the football operations.
But Marshall’s staff is still in flux, largely because Richie Hall, with whom he has worked previously, has yet to commit to an offer to join the staff. Hall has been contacted by the Riders, Hamilton, Winnipeg and B.C.
Independent of that, the Riders simply needed to make Marshall’s hiring official instead of delaying what was first reported by sportsnet.ca’s Arash Madani.
Durant has a year and an option year remaining on his current contract, which was extended last year, and some terms of that deal had to be addressed going into the new year.
