The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have no plans to bring in a veteran quarterback to replace back-up pivot Joey Elliott, who is lost for the season with a torn ACL.

Two days after Elliott was hurt badly in Winnipeg's 21-20 loss to Calgary, the Blue Bombers have decided to bring back Justin Goltz, Sportsnet.ca has learned.

Goltz, originally signed by the club last October, was cut at the end of training camp in June.

While there were options on the street -- Jason Maas, Casey Printers and Chris Leak, to name a few -- Goltz was already in Winnipeg by Saturday afternoon. The former three-year starter at Occidental College is familiar with Paul LaPolice's system and the thought is he will have little issue integrating back into the offence.

For now, Goltz, who had brief stints with the Detroit Lions and the Sacramento franchise in the UFL, is the only quarterback Winnipeg plans on signing.

Buck Pierce remains the team's starter, though listed as day-to-day (bruised thigh) after he also left the game Thursday on a night he was consistently being hit by the Stampeders defence. Pierce suggested he could start next week, at Toronto, when he met with the Winnipeg media on Friday.

Alex Brink likely gets elevated to No. 2 on the depth chart when the Blue Bombers return to practice on Monday.
