VANCOUVER - The B.C. Lions won the West Division Final on Sunday at home beating the Edmonton Eskimos 40-23. But the euphoria the team felt following the victory will be replaced on Monday by despair when they have to bury one of their own.
Dylan Reichelt, the 18-year-old son of Lions' longtime trainer Bill Reichelt, will be buried and the entire team will be there for the somber gathering.
Dylan Reichelt died in a car accident in Langley, B.C. on November 13. He was a passenger in the car.
Prior to the start of Sunday's West Division Final, a moment of silence was observed for the teenager. The Lions are wearing decals with the letters DR on their helmets. Some members of the organization are wearing a button with the letters.
The elder Reichelt, who has been with the Lions for 35 years and is one of the most respected trainers in the business, was in attendance for the win.
Dylan is survived by his parents, Bill and Cathy, his sister Keira and twin brother, Jesse.
