MONTREAL — The shake-up in the coaching staff of the struggling Montreal Alouettes continued on Monday when Erik Campbell was replaced as receivers coach by Turk Schonert.
The team also named Jeff Garcia as quarterbacks coach and made it official that Ryan Dinwiddie is the offensive co-ordinator.
Campbell was in his second year as receivers coach. With Troy Smith struggling as the starting quarterback, the 1-5 Alouettes do not have a player in the top 20 in the CFL in receiving yards. Kenny Stafford is 22nd with 16 catches for 202 yards.
"This decision has been made in the best interest of the football team," Alouettes head coach Tom Higgins said in a statement. "Turk has done a great job since he joined our staff and we look forward to having him work closely with our talented receiving corps."
Higgins started with Rick Worman as offensive co-ordinator but he was fired during training camp. Quarterbacks coach Dinwiddie took over his duties without taking the job title.
The Alouettes brought in Schonert, a former NFL coach with no CFL experience, and former head coach Don Matthews as consultants two weeks ago, and added former CFL and NFL quarterback Garcia to the staff in an unspecified capacity last week.
