MONTREAL — Alouettes linebacker Shea Emry had a Grey Cup ring stolen from his car just before he was to leave for Montreal to pick up another.

Emry wrote on Twitter that his 2009 ring was taken on Tuesday night in Vancouver. A Twitter campaign immediately sprang up among followers on Wednesday to try to recover it.

The Richmond, B.C. native called it “the worst day of my life,” but he won’t wait long to get another.

The repeat champion Alouettes are to receive their 2010 Grey Cup rings on Friday night.

“I feel horrible about what transpired but I’m picking up my suit for my second ring ceremony on Friday night,” the 25-year-old tweeted.

The Alouettes open training camp on Sunday in Sherbrooke, Que.
