TORONTO — The CFL’s board of governors has approved a rule change allowing coaches to request video review of a missed field goal or convert to possibly overturn an on-field ruling.
“Video review has become a dependable asset to ensure we get the right call on the field,” Tom Higgins, the CFL’s director of officiating, said in a statement. “And with the technology and number of cameras used in today’s telecasts of our games, expanding video review to cover these potential scoring plays is a natural evolution.”
The CFL board is also giving coaches more flexibility in how they use timeouts.
This season, coaches can use both of their timeouts any time during regulation time but only one after the three-minute warning in the second half has sounded.
Previously, coaches could only use one timeout per half.
