The Calgary Stampeders announced that safety Joshua Bell has retired and will join the team as a defensive backs coach.
He played six years in the the CFL and suited up for 76 games with the Stampeders. He was apart of their 2014 championship team and was named an all-star in the 2015 and 2017.
“Josh was an intelligent player, a natural leader and a person who was very respected by the guys in the locker room, as proven by the fact he was voted a team captain and received the 2017 Presidents’ Ring award,” Stampeders head coach Dave Dickenson said in a news release. “I’m confident he’ll be an excellent coach and I’m happy that he’s staying in the organization and taken on this new role. I also congratulate him for all that he accomplished during his playing career.”
Bell joins Dickenson, DeVone Claybrooks and Corey Mace as former Stamps players on the Calgary coaching staff.
Before coming to the CFL, he played in 13 NFL games with the Denver Broncos and Green Bay Packers.
