VANCOUVER — The B.C. Lions have signed Canadian wide receiver Shaq Johnson to a new contract for the 2018 season, the CFL team said Friday in a release.

Johnson was drafted in the fourth round by the Lions in 2016. He had 30 receptions for 521 yards and a pair of touchdowns in his second season in 2017.

"Shaq demonstrated last season that when given the opportunity to contribute, he’s capable of taking his game to another level," said head coach Wally Buono. "He’s going to be a key part of our offence this season and his return is very good news for the club."

The Brampton, Ont., native led the Lions’ receiving corps with a 17.4-yard average catch last season.
