Redblacks’ Williams CFL’s offensive player of week

TORONTO — Running back Jonathan Williams, who led the Ottawa Redblacks to just their second win of the season, was named the CFL’s offensive player of the week Tuesday.

Williams ran for 180 yards and two TDs while also adding two catches for 49 yards in leading Ottawa past the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 42-20. It was just his second game with the expansion Redblacks.

Ottawa defensive lineman Justin Capicciotti captured top Canadian honours. The Toronto native had two sacks and a tackle against Winnipeg.

Calgary defensive lineman Shawn Lemon was named the top defensive player. He had two sacks and a forced fumble in the Stampeders’ 31-24 victory over Saskatchewan.

Toronto kicker Swayze Waters earned the top special-teams award. Waters had six field goals and added a single in helping the Argonauts to a 33-32 win over the Edmonton Eskimos.
