One month after a shake-up that saw the firing of GM Jim Barker and the resignation of Scott Milanovich, the Toronto Argonauts look poised to reload in a big way.
According to Sportsnet’s Arash Madani, the team is close to hiring GM Jim Popp and head coach Marc Trestman, who formerly worked together in those same roles for the Montreal Alouettes.
Popp was relieved of his GM duties with the Alouettes in November after filling several roles with the team starting in 1996.
Trestman, meanwhile, was last seen serving as offensive coordinator of the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens before getting fired in October.

The two worked together as GM and head coach from 2008 through 2012 — a period that saw them win back-to-back Grey Cups in 2009 and 2010 — before Trestman left Montreal to become head coach of the Chicago Bears.
Also according to Madani, the two could be introduced in their new roles as early as Tuesday.
They’ll be joining a team coming off a tumultuous year. The Argonauts finished tied for the league’s worst record at 5-13 and lost their final seven games.
