Stampeders favoured over Tiger-Cats in Grey Cup

After posting the best record in the league during the regular season and blasting their provincial rival in the Western Final, the Calgary Stampeders have been installed as the betting favourites at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com for Sunday’s Grey Cup matchup with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at BC Place.

The Stampeders went 15-3 straight up (SU) and 12-5-1 against the spread (ATS) during the regular season, then had no trouble beating the Edmonton Eskimos in the Western Final with a 43-18 victory last weekend. Bo Levi Mitchell went 14 of 22 for 336 passing yards with four touchdown strikes for the Stampeders in that easy win, while Jon Cornish rushed for 54 yards and a touchdown.

Those results have led to the Stampeders being listed as 7.5-point favourites for Sunday’s Grey Cup in Vancouver, with that line falling just slightly from its opening of Calgary -8. The total for the game has been listed at 52.5 points at the sportsbooks for Sunday’s matchup.

The Tiger-Cats went just 9-9 both SU and ATS during the regular season, but that was good enough for first place in the East. Hamilton then didn’t have much trouble against the Montreal Alouettes in the Eastern Final, topping them 40-24 as Nic Grigsby rushed for 93 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Zach Collaros went 18 of 27 for 199 yards passing in the win.

Hamilton and Calgary met twice during the regular season, with the Stampeders winning both of those games SU and the teams splitting the ATS results at 1-1. The Stampeders topped the Tiger-Cats 10-7 but didn’t cover the 9.5-point spread at home back on July 18, with Calgary then beating Hamilton 30-20 as a 2.5-point road favourite on August 16. Both of those games were UNDER results, and the UNDER has now gone 5-1 in their six most recent matchups.

Along with the game line and total, the sportsbooks are also offering up Grey Cup prop bets for Sunday — including odds to win the Grey Cup Most Valuable Player award. Cornish opened as the 2/1 favourite on those lines, followed by Mitchell at 7/2 and Collaros at 11/2. Collaros is also at 15/1 along with Mitchell to score the first touchdown of the game on Sunday, with Cornish the favourite at 5/1 and Grigsby behind him at 8/1 on that odds list.

Kickoff for the Tiger-Cats versus Stampeders matchup at the 102nd Grey Cup Sunday is 6 p.m. ET.
