CALGARY — The Calgary Stampeders got a head start on CFL free agency by re-signing both kickers Friday.

Punter Rob Maver from Brampton, Ont., and Montreal kicker Rene Paredes will remain with team in 2018.

Both were eligible for free agency in February.

Maver and Paredes have been Stampeders since 2010 and 2011 respectively.

“Rob and Rene have been one of the best kicking tandems in the CFL for a number of years and have given us great production and stability at those positions,” Stampeders general manager John Hufnagel said in a statement.

Paredes, who was born in Venezuela, was named the CFL’s top special teams player in 2013. The 31-year-old holds the league record for consecutive field goals at 39.

Paredes ranked second in the league in 2016 in points (203) and kickoff average (66.4 yards).

“Calgary is my family’s home year-round and with a baby boy due to arrive in March, it’s a very good feeling to know I will be staying in this city and continuing my career with the Stampeders,” Paredes said.

Maver, 30, posted a career best punting average of 46.9 yards in 2016 and kicked seven that had opposing offences starting from inside their own 10-yard line.
