Toronto’s BMO Field will host the 104th Grey Cup on Sunday Nov. 27, 2016, the CFL announced on Thursday.
“This is a tremendous opportunity and an exciting new start for the Toronto Argonauts in 2016 to showcase what today’s CFL is made of, and to celebrate the energy and diversity of Toronto’s football community,” said CFL commissioner Jeffrey Orridge.
Because temporary seating will be installed at Exhibition Place for the Grey Cup at BMO, it is believed that the NHL Winter Classic may very well be held there on Jan. 1, 2017 — helping offset the costs and be more logistically prudent with the two events less than six weeks apart.
The 2017 Winter Classic would fall in line with the Centennial celebrations of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Sportsnet also reported a few weeks back that the 2017 Grey Cup will be held in Ottawa, but there’s been no confirmation.
Toronto hosted the 100th edition of the Grey Cup in 2012, which the Argonauts won 35-22 against the Calgary Stampeders at the Rogers Centre.
