DENVER -- Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall had his suspension for violating the league's personal conduct policy reduced from three games to one on Thursday.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell suspended Marshall for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy for a series of off-field issues. At the time, Marshall was told the suspension could be cut to two games if he stayed out of trouble and kept in touch with a league-appointed counsellor.
He'll also forfeit his pay for an additional game, for a two-game total of US$52,352.
Marshall's suspension begins Saturday. He can return to Broncos headquarters Sept. 9.
"We're very happy," said Marshall's lawyer, Harvey Steinberg. "It's a very fair result, and we appreciate the NFL taking a second look."
Steinberg and Marshall flew to New York on Tuesday and met for 2 1/2 hours with NFL executive vice-president Harold Henderson.
"Brandon was thrilled. It's as good as we expected or hoped for," Steinberg said.
Marshall still faces a drunken driving trial Sept. 16.
