The Philadelphia Eagles opted Saturday to leave quarterback Michael Vick off their 53-man roster to start the season, in order to keep a spot for another player while Vick serves his suspension. Vick, who is not eligible to play until Week 3, was placed on the exempt list.
The move means Vick will not be allowed to practise with the team as long as he remains exempt. He will be permitted to participate in team meetings and do individual drills.
Vick can be removed from the exempt list at any time, as long as they cut a player in his place. The Eagles left backup quarterback A.J. Feeley, who they were trying to trade, on the 53-man roster Saturday. However, the club announced on Sunday it had released Feeley to make room for defensive tackle Antonio Dixon, whom they claimed off waivers from the Washington Redskins.
As a results, Vick becomes the team's third quarterback behind Donovan McNabb and Kevin Kolb.
Tight end Matt Schobel was one of 17 players released by Philadelphia Saturday. Tackle Fenuki Tupou was placed on the injured reserve list.
The Eagles also announced Sunday they have re-signed four players to the practice squad: WR Danny Amendola, G Paul Fanaika, G Mike Gibson, and TE Rob Myers.
