If the Bengals didn't prepare for the Jets' version of the Wildcat - and it sure didn't look that way Sunday night - you can bet they will be spending time this week on a plan for Brad Smith.

But here's the tricky part: It's not a conventional Wildcat because Smith, a former quarterback at Missouri, isn't locked into taking a direct snap in shotgun. He can line up under center - a "rare" dimension, according to Rex Ryan. "You had Michael Vick and some great running quarterbacks, like Steve Young," Ryan said yesterday. "When you look at Brad Smith, what he accomplished on the college level, he was Tim Tebow and all those other guys before any of them. ... The guy is a phenomenal athlete. Now we're really taking advantage of it."

Smith made the two biggest plays in the Jets' 37-0 victory, the first a 57-yard run out of shotgun to set up the first touchdown. Later, he lined up under center, faked an option pitch to Shonn Greene and kept it for a 32-yard touchdown run. Smith hasn't thrown a pass out of the formation, but they have "several" pass plays in the playbook for him, according to Ryan - a not-so-subtle message to the Bengals.
