The price tag to sign soon-to-be free agent Michael Vick will skyrocket after Monday's performance.

On Monday afternoon, the Redskins sent shock waves throughout the NFL with the announcement that they had signed quarterback Donovan McNabb to a $78-million contract extension, with $40 million dollars in guaranteed money. On Monday night, Eagles quarterback Michael Vick stunned the Redskins with a record-setting performance.

Timing is everything and Vick's financial timing could not have been better. A free agent after this season, the price tag to sign Vick will far exceed what the Redskins gave McNabb.

Time now to take a look at what happened in Week 10.

Star of the week

FAST FACTS
  • Star of the week: Philly's Michael Vick
  • Stiff of the week: Redskins D
  • Team on the rise: Tampa Bay Buccaneers
  • Unsung hero: Miami's Tyler Thigpen
RELATED

Tom Brady played like a man possessed Sunday night as he went 30 of 43 for 350 yards and three touchdowns in the Patriots win over the Steelers. Brady was great, but Michael Vick was even better. The Eagles quarterback did something no other player in the history of the NFL has ever done: 300-plus yards passing, 50-plus yards running, four passing touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns in the same game. (My fantasy football team scored 130 points this week and lost, just because the other guy had Vick). The Eagles quarterback has now thrown 11 touchdowns this year, zero interceptions and he is the highest rated quarterback in the NFL.

Stiff of the week

I wanted to give the award to Brett Favre after he tossed three interceptions in the Vikings loss to the Bears. However the ultimate stiff of the week was the entire Redskins defence for their awful performance Monday night. The Redskins defence allowed the Eagles to score 59 points, they gave up 592 yards of total offence and they allowed the Eagles to go 8 for 13 on third-down conversions.

Team on the rise

I have talked about them earlier this season, but there really isn't enough being said about the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this year. From three wins in 2009 to a 6-3 record so far in 2010. It is amazing to think that Bucs head coach Raheem Morris is still only 34 years old. One of the emerging young stars on the Bucs this year is running back LeGarrette Blount. An undrafted free agent out of Oregon, Blount was claimed off of waivers in September after he was released by the Titans. In his last three games, Bount has run for 257 yards and three touchdowns.

What where they thinking?

There are reports that Redskins safety LaRon Landry was taunting Eagles receiver DeSean Jackson before the game, really giving him the business about his recent concussion. So on the first play from scrimmage, Vick hit Jackson with an 88-yard touchdown. Guess who Jackson beat for the highlight-reel touchdown? That's right; LaRon Landry. The football gods sure do have a wonderful sense of humour.

The race for No. 1

With both the Bills and the Cowboys picking up wins, the Carolina Panthers took a major step forward in their quest for the No. 1 pick in the 2011 NFL draft. The Panthers schedule is brutal over the next month with games against the Ravens, at Cleveland, at Seattle then home again to the Falcons. Unless they can beat the Cardinals in week 15, the Panthers will be destined to finish 2010 with a 1-15 record.

Ronnie Lott award

Patriots safety Patrick Chung won the most votes this week for his sweet open-field hit on Steelers receiver Mike Wallace. Chung's hit was proof once again that you can still crush a guy with a violent tackle, without aiming for their head.

The unsung hero award

It has to be the Dolphins third-string quarterback Tyler Thigpen. Most third-string quarterbacks have a better chance of winning the lottery than they do of actually getting into a real game. Well with Chad Henne and Chad Pennington both down for the count, Thigpen came in and saved the day for the Dolphins. Coach Tony Sparano said Thigpen really earned his keep on his touchdown throw to Anthony Fasano: "I mean Tyler doesn't get a rep period during the week, but that was his play. He really felt convicted about that and made a heck of a decision and a heck of a throw." For his efforts in leading the Dolphins to victory, Thigpen received a well deserved game ball from coach Sparano. This was Thigpen's first regular-season victory since November 2008.

Big injury of the week

There were two major injuries Sunday as the Dolphins lost both of their quarterbacks in Henne and Pennington. One of the nicest athletes I have ever met, Pennington is done for the year with yet another shoulder injury. Henne's status is up the in the air. All Sparano will say is that Henne is day-to-day and there is a chance he "might" be able to play in the Dolphins game Thursday night against the Bears. .

The Rex Ryan watch

Rex Ryan had a lot to talk about after the Jets overtime win over the Browns. Rex even coined a new phrase when describing the game-winning touchdown from Santonio Holmes: "Santonio Time." Said Ryan: "You ought to see the look in that young man's eyes when the fourth quarter comes rolling, because that's Santonio Time. He's a game changer and he's a winner." As far as the fact the Jets needed overtime to beat the Lions and the Browns in the last two weeks, Ryan put that into perspective: "We're far from perfect, there's no question about that. But we are 7-2 and we'll take it."

The funniest moment

The funniest moment comes courtesy of the Boston Globe and the Boston Herald. After their win over the Steelers, Patriots guard Logan Mankins was pissed off at Troy Polamalu. Making his first start of the year after a bitter holdout, Mankins came to the defence of Tom Brady because he thought Polamalu was giving his quarterback the business in the bottom of a pile. "We don't care how long your hair is, we're not going to let you do what you want to our quarterback."

The hot cheerleader award

As a tribute to the 49ers overtime win over the Rams, I am proud to present the pride of San Francisco, Carmen.

What to watch for next week

After what Vick did to the Redskins, the Sunday night NFC East showdown between the Eagles and the Giants is going to be off the charts. Not to be outdone is another head-to-head showdown between Peyton Manning and Tom Brady as the Colts take on the Patriots. Another game that is intriguing is the showdown between two longtime rivals, the Raiders and the Steelers.
