Bears, centre Garza agree to extension
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- Veteran centre Roberto Garza and the Chicago Bears have agreed on a two-year contract extension through 2013.
Primarily a guard his first 10 seasons, Garza replaced the departed Olin Kreutz at centre and helped stabilize a line that struggled in the early going but has played well in recent weeks.
The blocking was good enough in Monday's 30-24 victory at Philadelphia for Jay Cutler to go the entire game without being sacked -- no small accomplishment, considering he had at least one in 29 straight games.
Garza, whose six-year contract extension was set to expire, has played in 102 games and made 93 starts since joining the Bears in 2005. He played for Atlanta before that.
