Pats mark their territory
Tom Brady reminded everyone Sunday night why he will be a first ballot Hall of Fame quarterback. While Mark Sanchez and the Jets were throwing away a chance to take over first place in the AFC East, Brady methodically picked apart New York's defense and led the Patriots to a huge win over their division rivals.
Now, it's time to look back at what happened in Week 10:
Star of the week:
Raiders running back Michael Bush received a lot of votes after running for 157 yards and picking up another 85 yards receiving in the team's win over the Chargers. The amazing Devin Hester returned another punt for a touchdown and is now only one behind Deion Sanders for the most return touchdowns (19) in league history. Aaron Rodgers threw four more touchdowns and had a quarterback rating of 140.3 as the Packers dominated the Vikings 45-7 in the Monday night game. All of these men had great games, but Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo was the star of the week for his near perfect performance against the Buffalo Bills. Romo was a remarkable, going 23-of-26 for 270 yards and three touchdowns. Romo's 88.5 completion percentage was the most accurate day by a quarterback in the history of the Cowboys.
Stiff of the week:
Bills quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick had a miserable day in Dallas. Fitzpatrick ended up throwing three interceptions including a pick six as the Bills lost their second straight game. Michael Vick was even worse, but the ultimate stiff of the week award goes out to Atlanta Falcons coach Mike Smith for his insane decision to go for it on fourth down in their overtime loss to the New Orleans Saints. Facing a 4th-and-1 on their own 29-yard line, Smith decided to go for it. The Saints stuffed running back Michael Turner and took over on downs. Four plays later, John Kasay kicked the game-winning field goal as the Saints put a stranglehold on the NFC South. That loss likely cost the Falcons any shot at a home playoff game.
Tebowmania:
Tim Tebow's name went down in the Denver Broncos history books after he beat the rival Kansas City Chiefs with only two completed passes. Tebow went 2-for-8 for 69 yards and one touchdown in the key division win. Tebow is 3-1 as a starter and the Broncos are amazingly only one game back of the Raiders for first place in the AFC West.
Teams on the decline:
I like tough football, I really do. But there's a big difference between tough football and dirty football. As the Bears laid a beating on the Lions Sunday, Jim Schwartz's team resorted to playing cheap shot football. The Lions have lost three of their last four games and have earned the dubious distinction of being named the dirtiest team in the NFL. The other team heading in the wrong direction right now is the Bills. After getting rolled by the Cowboys, the team has lost their last two games by a combined score of 71-18. With injuries to key players mounting, Buffalo still has road games in Miami and New York before coming back home to the Ralph.
"Dream Team" watch:
Where do you start with the Philadelphia Eagles this week? DeSean Jackson missed a team meeting Saturday and Andy Reid made him a healthy scratch for Sunday's game versus the Cardinals. Vick suffered two broken ribs as the Eagles lost at home. The teams allowed 14 points in the fourth quarter against Arizona and have now blown five fourth quarter leads this season.
Ronnie Lott award:
Julius Peppers wins the award after his masterful hit on Lions receiver Calvin Johnson. Peppers crushing hit forced a fumble that led to the first of many touchdowns for the Bears as they downed the Lions 37-13. The Bears have won four straight and they are the team nobody wants to face right now.
The best touchdown celebration:
We have seen a lot of creative touchdown celebrations over the years. But I can't remember the last time I saw a player hug an opposing cheerleader after a touchdown. That's exactly what Bills receiver David Nelson did in Dallas when he ran over and hugged his girlfriend after scoring. His girlfriend just happens to be a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader.
The unsung hero award:
The winner goes out to a member of the best defense in the NFL, 49ers cornerback Carlos Rogers. After spending six years with the Redskins, Rogers is putting together the best season of his career. Rogers intercepted Eli Manning twice in the 49ers win over the Giants. Rogers' second interception set up what turned out to be the game-winning field goal by David Akers as the 49ers improved to 8-1.
The big injuries of the week:
This was a bad week for season-ending injuries. The Jaguars lost defensive back Rashean Mathis with a torn ACL. The Bengals lost cornerback Leon Hall with a torn Achilles tendon. Knowshon Moreno was lost for the year with a knee injury. Matt Cassel could miss the rest of the season with a hand injury. The Texans were dealt a huge blow with the news that quarterback Matt Schuab has a serious foot injury and will be replaced by former first-round pick Matt Leinart.
What to watch for in Week 11::
Assuming Rex Ryan won't be swearing at any fans, the week kicks off Thursday with the Jets taking on Tebow and the Broncos in Denver. The Bills try to get off the schneid when they face the rival Dolphins. The Packers look to remain undefeated when they host the struggling Bucs at Lambeau. One of the hottest teams in the NFL, the Bears will take on the Chargers. The Raiders have a chance to solidify first place in the AFC West when they take on the rebuilding Vikings.
