FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- New York Jets owner Woody Johnson says quarterback Mark Sanchez "is our guy," but also wouldn't rule out pursuing a veteran such as Peyton Manning if the Indianapolis Colts star became available.
Meeting with beat writers for the first time since the Jets failed to make the playoffs, Johnson says in a 30-minute far-ranging interview Thursday "barring whatever" Sanchez would be the team's starting quarterback next season and in the foreseeable future.
He adds there's "no such thing as 100 per cent" in football, but highlighted Sanchez's age and projected progress as reasons to keep him over a healthy, established winning quarterback -- such as Manning.
Johnson says disgruntled receiver Santonio Holmes will be back, and the offence will be "more suitable" to Sanchez's abilities.
