Banged-up Bills open as underdogs for Week 8

With first place in the AFC East still within their reach the Buffalo Bills will be looking to take care of business on the road against the division-rival New York Jets this week as small 2.5-point underdogs on the opening NFL lines at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.

The Bills, however, will be without both running backs C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson for their Sunday afternoon game against the Jets, with Spiller suffering a broken collarbone and Jackson injuring his groin in the team’s win over the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. Spiller is expected to be out for the season, while Jackson could reportedly miss four weeks.

Buffalo enters Week 8 at 4-3 SU and 3-4 ATS on the season, with the New England Patriots just ahead of them in the AFC East at 5-2 SU and 3-4 ATS through seven games. The Jets, meanwhile, are an ugly 1-6 SU and 1-5-1 ATS after the Patriots edged them 27-25 last Thursday night. The Bills are 2-1 both SU and ATS in their last three games against the Jets according to the OddsShark NFL Database.

The Patriots opened as seven-point home favourites against the Chicago Bears for Week 8, with the Bears stumbling along at 3-4 both SU and ATS on the season after they lost 27-14 to Miami in Week 7. The Dolphins opened as four-point road favourites for their game against the Jacksonsville Jaguars this Sunday; Miami sits at 3-3 both SU and ATS on the season.

The Thursday night game this week has the Denver Broncos hosting the San Diego Chargers, with the Broncos opening as 6.5-point home favourites. For Sunday night the New Orleans Saints opened as 1.5-point home favourites against the Green Bay Packers, while Monday night’s matchup between Washington and Dallas opened with the Cowboys as nine-point favourites. Dallas is 6-1 SU and 5-2 ATS through its first seven games this year.
