Canadian running back Tyler Varga will continue his efforts to move up draft boards at the 2015 NFL Scouting Combine. The Kitchener, Ont., native has officially received and accepted an invitation to attend the event, sources have confirmed.
More than 300 of the top college prospects eligible to be selected in the NFL draft are invited annually to the combine at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. Coaching staffs and player personnel from all 32 franchises travel to the combine for player evaluations. It’s a four-day, up-close-and-personal job interview with teams for all the athletes in attendance.
Varga becomes the first-ever running back from Yale to attend the combine and first Canadian ball carrier since Jon Cornish in 2007. He’ll be in Indianapolis from Feb. 18-21. During that time, Varga will undergo a full medical, interview with teams, be put through mental and physical testing — 40-yard dash, bench press, etc. — and finish the event with on-field drills.
It’s another important step for Varga, who earned the chance to show his skills at the 2015 Senior Bowl, on his journey towards reaching his dream of an NFL career.
