DAVIE, Fla. — Miami Dolphins defensive end Dion Jordan has yet to practice this year and hasn’t played in a game since 2014, but he still hopes to return this season from knee surgery.
Jordan, the No. 3 overall draft pick in 2013, received conditional reinstatement from the NFL in July following a 15-month suspension for his latest violation of the league’s substance abuse policy. He has since been rehabilitating from surgery with the goal of getting into some games in 2016.
"I’m taking it a day at a time, listening to our head trainers and the coaches," Jordan said Friday. "Once I feel like I’m healthy, then I’m going to get out there and I’m going to play. Of course, I’m dying to. … It’s tough, especially when you haven’t been out there playing ball in over a year."
Along with substance abuse policies, Jordan has been hampered by injuries since being drafted. He has only three career sacks in 26 games.
Jordan has occasionally rehabilitated on the field during practice, and he is allowed to travel with the team.
"That’s what I missed the most — being in the locker room and being in the meetings with these fellows," he said. "That was good. I’ve just got to get back into the regular routine."
Notes: As expected, TEs Jordan Cameron and Dion Sims were both ruled out of Sunday’s game against Buffalo while they recover from concussions.
