NEW YORK — Free agent quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, locked in a contract stalemate with the New York Jets, says he wants to return to the team and has no plans to retire.

Fitzpatrick insisted he “would like to be back,” according to ESPN and the New York Post. The quarterback spoke Monday in Croton-on-Hudson at offensive tackle Willie Colon’s charity golf tournament benefiting lupus research.

The 33-year-old veteran appeared to be a certainty to re-sign at the start of free agency in March, but Fitzpatrick and the Jets have been unable to agree on financial terms. General manager Mike Maccagnan and coach Todd Bowles repeatedly have said bringing back Fitzpatrick is a priority.

Fitzpatrick also dismissed suggestions he would rather retire than take a low offer, telling Sir-iusXM NFL Radio: “I want to continue doing this.”
