INDIANAPOLIS — Colts’ running back Daniel "Boom" Herron has signed his one-year free-agent tender.

The move, announced Wednesday, means Herron will be with Indianapolis this season. The former Bengals’ practice squad player became Indy’s starter in the playoffs, replacing Trent Richardson.

After running 78 times for 351 yards with one touchdown and catching 21 passes for 173 yards in the regular season, Herron ran 45 times for 170 yards and two TDs in three playoff games. He also caught 23 passes for 128 yards, setting a post-season franchise record by a running back.

Herron is expected to be joined in the backfield by the recently signed Frank Gore and Vick Ballard, who has missed most of the last two seasons with injuries.
