Kaepernick, Olympic icon John Carlos meet for first time

Colin Kaepernick has a supporter in Olympic icon John Carlos, and the two finally got a chance to meet.

Kaepernick, who protested racial inequality last year by taking a knee during the U.S. national anthem, met up with Carlos on Thursday, and according to The Nation’s Dave Zirin, the Olympic bronze medallist was honoured to be with the former 49ers quarterback.

Carlos, along with fellow American Tommy Smith, raised their fists in a Black Power protest on the podium at the 1968 Olympic Games following the 200-metre event. Both men were suspended and banned from the Olympic village.

Kaepernick remains without an NFL job after he opted out of his contract with the 49ers in March.
