Derek Carr is tasked with leading the Oakland Raiders to a second consecutive playoff appearance and is among the favourites to be the NFL’s MVP this season.

However, that’s not at all why people were talking about him on Tuesday.

The star quarterback posted a 15-second video on social media teasing a potential music career and linking to derekcarrmusic.com which features an image of him sporting an impressive Canadian tuxedo.

Carr wouldn’t be the first NFL star to try his hand at a singing career.

Deion Sanders released an album in 1994 called Prime Time and even had a collaboration with MC Hammer titled “Straight To My Feet” that appeared on the soundtrack of the 1994 Academy Award winner for Best Picture cult hit Street Fighter.

Hall of Fame quarterback Terry Bradshaw can win multiple Super Bowls, be an entertaining analyst for FOX Sports, sell you basically anything in a commercial and, you guessed it, he can also sing.

Bradshaw had some success covering Hank Williams tunes in the 1970s and ’80s.

Carr adding “world-famous musician” to his list of career achievements would be amazing. Alas, judging by this Instagram post back in July it appears he is merely filming a music video as part of an EECU (Educational Employees Credit Union) commercial.

Derek has been involved in a partnership with EECU since 2014 along with his brother David Carr, the first-overall pick of the Houston Texans from the 2002 NFL Draft.

Carr inked a five-year, $125-million contract extension in the off-season. Imagine how many jean jackets with fringes he could purchase with all that dough!
