Los Angeles Chargers first-round pick Mike Williams may require season-ending back surgery, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Selected seventh-overall in the 2017 NFL Draft, Williams was diagnosed with a herniated disk during L.A.’s rookie minicamp and hasn’t practised since. The six-foot-four wide receiver recently underwent a second epidural for the injury in an attempt to take part in some of training camp but, according to Schefter, the team is “preparing” for Williams to miss more time than that.

However, contrasting reports suggest the rookie’s condition has improved since the second epidural and the Chargers have ruled out surgery.

This is just the latest in a rash of injuries to hit the Chargers’ offence over the last couple of years, including multiple season-ending injuries to No. 1 receiver Keenan Allen.
