The New Orleans Saints are believed to be closing in on a deal with star running back Adrian Peterson, according to a report from the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Rapoport suggests the contract would pay Peterson upwards of $3 million for the 2017 season but exact terms are uncertain.

Peterson, 32, has spent the past 10 seasons as a member of the Minnesota Vikings, leading the NFL in rushing yards on three occasions. The seven-time Pro Bowler was limited to just three games in 2016 due to a knee injury.

New Orleans finished 15th in rushing yards per game a season ago and Peterson would figure to split carries with Mark Ingram in the backfield. The Saints are coming off a 7-9 campaign, good for a third-place finish in the NFC South.
