METAIRIE, La. — The Saints have placed running back Pierre Thomas and defensive lineman Akiem Hicks on injured reserve, ending their season ahead of Sunday’s finale at Tampa Bay.

Thomas left New Orleans’ game against Atlanta early last Sunday with an injury to his ribs. Hicks has been limited in practice prior to this week with an ankle injury.

Thomas is third on the team with 222 yards rushing and two touchdowns. He also has 378 yards receiving and another score.

Hicks, meanwhile, has 58 tackles, two sacks and two passes defenced.

The Saints filled the open rosters spots with receiver Brandon Coleman and linebacker Jerry Franklin. Both players have been with the New Orleans practice squad.

Coach Sean Payton said it was unlikely for either Coleman or Franklin to play against the Buccaneers.
