NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans have interviewed Chris Polian of the Jacksonville Jaguars and Jon Robinson of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in their search for a new general manager.
The Titans confirmed they finished interviews Friday with Polian and Robinson, bringing the number of candidates interviewed to five in three days.
Polian is director of player personnel for the Jaguars and has been with Jacksonville since 2013. He spent three seasons as vice-president and general manager of the Colts under his father, Bill, between 2009-11. Polian was executive scout with Atlanta in 2012. He started with the Colts as a director of pro scouting in 1998 before assistant director of football operations from 2001-03.
He was promoted to assistant general manager/football operations in 2004 and was vice-president of football operations between 2005 and 2009. He also worked for Carolina between 1994 and 1997 when his father was general manager. Polian’s brother, Dennis, is assistant director of football administration and pro scout with the Titans.
Robinson is director of player personnel for the Buccaneers. A native of Union City, Tennessee, Robinson just finished his second season running Tampa Bay’s scouting department, which included college and pro scouting and draft preparation. He helped with negotiations for free agency last year.
He started in the NFL as an area scout for the New England Patriots in 2002 and became a regional scout in 2006 before becoming the Patriots’ director of college scouting between 2009 and 2013 when they drafted Julian Edelman in the seventh round in 2009, Rob Gronkowski in the second round in 2010. The Patriots won 10 division titles, four AFC titles and two Super Bowls during Robinson’s tenure in New England.
The Titans also have interviewed former Lions general manager Martin Mayhew, Giants vice-president of player evaluation Marc Ross and former Broncos general manager Ted Sundquist. They fired Ruston Webster Monday after the Titans went 5-27 the past two seasons.
Tennessee also is looking for a new coach after firing Ken Whisenhunt on Nov. 3, but the Titans are focusing on interviewing general manager candidates first.
