To all the NHL goalies who must face Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane, you have our sympathies. The American almost always manages to completely undress opposing goalies in shootouts and it just looks flat-out unfair. (AP/Paul Vernon)
During Ron Hextall’s rookie season, the Philadelphia Flyers great became the first goalie to ever score an NHL goal. This was an incredible accomplishment but it was more a result of terrible back checking than anything else. (AP/Chris Gardner)
Bolton Wanderers goalkeeper Adam Bogdan gave up an embarrassing goal to Everton keeper Tim Howard, who fired the ball from his own box, in a Premiership game in early 2012. (AP/Petr David Josek)
In a quarter finals bout between Brazil and England during the 2002 World Cup Brazilian striker Ronaldinho looped a brilliant free kick over English goalkeeper David Seaman’s head from 35-yards out. English football fans will tell you that the kick should have been disallowed, questioning Ronaldinho’s intent but the fact remains that Seaman should have made the save. (AP/Domenico Stinellis)
In 2000, Toronto Raptors shooting guard Tracy McGrady made an incredible block that was ruled goaltending against the New Jersey Nets as he caught the ball in mid-air. The play itself wasn’t bad, however, the decision to catch the ball in the air probably wasn’t the best one. (CP/Kevin Frayer)
On February 23 2012, then Washington Wizard center JaVale McGee spiked a Francisco Garcia shot into the third row volleyball style. Normally this would be a good thing but the play was a blatant block and was an all-around boneheaded thing to do. (AP/Richard Lipski)
On March 18 2008, Toronto Maple Leafs goalie Vesa Toskala let in one of the most embarrassing goals in NHL history, allowing a 174-foot shot in shorthanded. A moment Leafs fans wish they could forget. (CP/Nathan Denette)
During Game 3 of the 2003 Stanley Cup Finals between the New Jersey Devils and Anaheim Mighty Ducks, Devils goalie Martin Brodeur went out to play the puck after Ducks defenceman Sandis Ozolins dumped it in only to lose his grip and see the puck deflect off his stick into his net.
