Fresh off her fourth top-5 finish of the season, Canada’s Brooke Henderson has one last shot at adding a major title to her resume in 2017.
On Thursday, the Evian Championship kicks off in Evian-les-Bains, France, the fifth and final major of the LPGA Tour season.
The 20-year-old Henderson from Smiths Falls, Ont., will tee it up at 8:29 a.m. in a group that includes former World No. 1, Lydia Ko, who won her first major title there in 2015. Ko finished second last week, and has yet to secure a win in 2017. (Though the 14-time winner on Tour did just become the fastest player in history to earn $8 million in her LPGA career).
Henderson, meanwhile, is looking for her second victory this year. She’s ranked No. 10 in the world, and 7th overall in the race for the CME Globe—the award given at the LPGA season’s end. American Lexi Thompson, the world No. 2, is the current leader there.
Henderson won in June at the Meijer LPGA Classic. She’s been playing well of late, having finished in a tie for fifth last weekend at the Indy Women in Tech Championship, and is a few weeks removed from firing the course record at the Canadian Open, where she bounced back from a tough start (a three-over 73) to finish tied for 12th.
Canada’s top-ranked golfer is looking to add to a resume that includes four wins on the LPGA Tour in just three seasons so far, including her first major in 2016 at the Women’s PGA Championship. Henderson, who turned 20 earlier this week, finished tied for ninth last year in her Evian Championship debut.
She’ll be joined in the field by fellow Canadian Brittany Marchand. Playing on the Symetra Tour, the 25-year-old from Orangeville, Ont., won her first pro tournament last month.
