Norm Macdonald: Tiger Woods ‘ready to win now’

Norm Macdonald joined Brady & Walker to talk about his lost SNL character Stan Hooper, the MLB Home Run Derby, and his favourite athletes.

Tiger Woods doesn’t have the backing of many golf pundits these days. But Canadian comedian Norm Macdonald doesn’t care – he still believes in the embattled former world No. 1.

Macdonald, born in Quebec and raised in Ottawa, is a huge golf fan and an avid tweeter of the sport. He joined Brady & Walker on Sportsnet 590 The FAN on Monday and discussed his upcoming gig at Niagara Fallsview Casino as well as a few sports-related topics, including golf tournament The Open, which takes place this week in Scotland.

“This will be the greatest Open ever because Tiger is just ready to win now,” Macdonald said. “It’s very funny because you listen to every guy and they’re like ‘No, he’s not good anymore,’ but then you listen to Tiger and he’s like ‘No, I’m on my way.’”

Woods has seen his ranking fall in recent years and currently sits at No. 241 in the world. It’s a far cry from a golfer who dominated the sport for more than a decade.

Macdonald says Woods has always been truthful about where he stands in tournaments, referencing his recent hesitant comments at the Memorial and Greenbrier Classic as indications he wasn’t quite ready. Now, however, things sound different with Woods, Macdonald believes.

“I know it’s pathetic, but I somehow feel he’s ready to win.”
