Are you eagerly anticipating the release of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 15?
If so, then you’d better not hold your breath.
In a statement released Monday, EA Sports announced the 14-time major winner and the venerable sports video game publisher will be ending their relationship.
“EA Sports and Tiger Woods have also made a mutual decision to end our partnership, which includes Tiger’s named PGA Tour golf game. We’ve always been big fans of Tiger and we wish him continued success in all his future endeavors.”
This ends a 15-year relationship between Woods and Electronic Arts that began with the release of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 99 back in 1998.
A consistent top-seller, the Tiger Woods PGA Tour franchise has sold in excess of $771 million in its lifetime, according to market analytics company NPD Group.
With EA’s departure from his stable of sponsors, there are now only two brands that have remained with Woods after his infidelity came to light in 2009: Nike and fractional private jet ownership company NetJets.
EA had been one of Woods’ most stalwart supporters during his extramarital crisis in 2009 and 2010.
Even without Woods, however, EA says its relationship with the PGA Tour remains solid.
“Moving forward, we will continue to work with the PGA Tour exclusively to create groundbreaking golfing titles and our partnership remains strong.”
