Sportsnet.ca - The feud between Edmonton Oilers general manager Kevin Lowe and Anaheim Ducks general manager Brian Burke went up a notch again on Thursday, with Lowe referring to Burke as an 'egomaniac' and 'blowhard'.

On Wednesday, Burke described the Oilers restricted free agency offer to Dustin Penner as "colossal stupidity" and went on to say that "if I had run my team into the sewer like that," he continued, "I wouldn't have thrown a grenade at the other 29 teams - and my own indirectly."

On Thursday, it was Lowe and head coach Craig MacTavish's turn to respond. As reported in the Edmonton Sun, Lowe referred to Burke as an 'egomaniac' and 'blowhard', while MacTavish considered him a media puppet.

"He reminds me of the Wizard of Oz," said MacTavish. "You comb his hair, put a white shirt on, wheel him out in front of the camera and he'll say whatever you guys want.

"Clearly it's a crusade of self-promotion on his part. But what goes around comes around in this league."

NOTES: According to media reports, Lowe signed a multi-year contract extension with the club on Friday. An announcement is expected at a media conference on Saturday.
