Sportsnet.ca -- If Peter Forsberg decides to play again in the NHL, it will only be for a Stanley Cup contender. Which means the Senators might be in line for another Swedish scorer.

A pair of NHL sources told the Toronto Sun that Ottawa and Colorado are the only two teams on Forsberg's list. A decision from the star is expected by the middle of November.

Forsberg has a history in Colorado, winning Cups as a member of the Avalanche in both 1995/96 and 2000/01.

"I believe he has an affinity for Colorado because of what he's accomplished there, but the Senators are in the mix," said an NHL executive.

For Senators GM Bryan Murray, getting Forsberg under contract might not be as easy as putting pen to paper. It is rumoured that Forsberg would want a three-year contract worth roughly $5 million per season.

The indication is Senators GM Bryan Murray has told agent Don Baizley he's willing to pay approximately $3 million this season, but with Jason Spezza not yet re-signed a long-term deal might not be in Ottawa's best interest.

The Senators have spent have spent approximately $48.5 million to date.

However, with a handful of Swedish stars currently playing on Canadian teams, there might be some phone calls to the Forsberg household trying to convince the Hart Trophy winner to expand his list to include a few more teams.

"He's a winner," Leafs captain Mats Sundin told Sun Media's Mike Zeisberger yesterday in Toronto.

Sundin was also quick to point out that he would place a call if it meant Forsberg not signing for the rival Senators.

"I haven't talked to (Forsberg), but if I do, I'll tell him only to come to us," said Sundin with a big laugh.
