Sportsnet.ca - The Maple Leafs will not make a move to fire general manager John Ferguson unless they can secure a star replacement. And the rumoured list is pretty impressive.
As reported in Sunday's Toronto Sun, word around the league suggests that the Leafs will only make a move in the GM position if they can land a star name such as Mark Messier, Ron Francis or Steve Yzerman.
"The Leafs need to have somebody with star power," said an NHL executive to the Sun.
"If they're going to put somebody into that seat who hasn't done it before, they need to have a marquee name."
