Sportsnet.ca -- As the NHL gets set for the start of the post-season, Toronto Maple Leafs players face the decision of whether to suit up for their respective countries in the upcoming IIHF World Hockey Championship in Halifax and Quebec City.

Leafs’ top defenceman Tomas Kaberle has already made the decision and will play for his native Czech Republic when the tournament gets underway on May 2.

Forward Matt Stajan has said he would play for Canada if he is invited. Bryan McCabe will not accept if invited however, as he and his wife are expecting the birth of a child in the next three weeks. The Canadian training camp opens on April 24 as they look to defend the gold medal.

Winger Jason Blake has decided to accept an invitation from Team USA.

Russians Alexei Ponikarovsky and Nik Antropov have both declined invites, as has Czech defenceman Pavel Kubina because of a chest inflection. Antropov is scheduled to go in for an MRI on his knee on Monday and is hopeful he will not require surgery.

Goaltender Vesa Toskala will meet with team doctors before deciding whether to join the Finnish team. He said his chances of playing are 50-50.
