PITTSBURGH -- Detroit Red Wings veteran Tomas Holmstrom remains uncertain to play in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup final on Saturday night.
Holmstrom, who injured a hamstring in Game 3 on Wednesday, skated for about 20 minutes on Saturday morning to test the leg. He appeared uncomfortable at times and favouring his left leg as he left the ice, but still hopes to be in the lineup when the puck drops.
"It felt pretty good actually, so it's a game time decision," said the 35-year-old, who skipped practice on Thursday to have the leg treated. "We're still talking about it.
"We'll try to do the smart thing. I had a pretty good skate. I felt it a bit and that's a little concern right now. That's why we want to do the smartest thing and figure it out before game time."
Holmstrom, who likes to crowd the crease and screen opposing goaltenders, has four goals and eight assists in 19 playoff games this season.
Red Wings coach Mike Babcock said that if Holmstrom can't play, Daniel Cleary will move into his spot on the top line with Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg, while veteran Darren McCarty will take his place in the lineup.
"To play with those two guys is really a privilege," Cleary said of teaming with the Red Wings' stars. "All I'd do is what Homer does.
"We kind of play the same anyway. Go to the net, be good in the corners. Stay out of their way. Those guys will find you. They make so many good plays."
Detroit leads the Pittsburgh Penguins 2-1 in the best-of-seven series.
