Calgary's Dustin Boyd may be the most absorbable player in the NHL. I don't even think that's proper English, but it applies to the hit the Flames forward absorbed from Edmonton's Steve MacIntyre on Saturday. Boyd absolutely got lambasted, hammered, pulverized and throw in a few more adjectives to describe what the Oiler tough guy did to him.
It was on the end boards and I don't know how long it takes to get a 6'6, 265-pound body up to full speed but that's what MacIntyre was at when he met Boyd behind the net. It was a one-sided collision that the Flame survived; and give credit to teammate Brandon Prust for jumping in against the behemoth MacIntyre to try and settle the score.
I'd say MacIntyre has come out of nowhere, but he might hurt me for it because in fact he's been almost everywhere in the minors -- he just had never made it to the NHL until now. But 'Wow!', what a start to the 28-year-old's career.
Tough guys aren't very likeable on the ice but off it they're often the most genuine of people you will ever meet. MacIntyre appears to fit that mold, he is almost polite to a fault and the good ol' Saskatchewan boy who is enjoying his sudden fame.
There's no telling how long this it will last but it's already lasted longer than the waiver wire pick up from Florida expected. I mean, after eight years in the minors this truly is a "dream come true" for the kid who grew up cheering for the Oilers ... and now is one.
