VANCOUVER -- Kyle Wellwood is making the most of his latest chance in the NHL.
Wellwood scored the game's first goal on the power play Tuesday and added an insurance goal in the third period as the Vancouver Canucks downed the Nashville Predators 4-0.
Wellwood, cut adrift by the Toronto Maple Leafs last summer, is now the Canucks' leading scorer with six goals in seven games since being called up for a second time from AHL Manitoba.
Vancouver netminder Roberto Luongo, who had a shaky start to the season, did the rest by stopping 24 shots four his third shutout of the season and second in four games.
Mason Raymond also scored on the power play in the third period, banging in a Steve Bernier rebound after Kevin Bieksa kept the play alive with a point shot.
Daniel Sedin made it 4-0 when he knocked in Henrik Sedin's rebound off the post.
The Canucks improved to 7-6-0 and vault over the Predators into seventh place in the Western Conference standings.
Nashville, shut out for the first time this season, lost in regulation for the first time in five games and slipped to 6-5-1.
Wellwood, claimed on waivers after four years with Toronto, was called up when Pavol Demitra suffered a rib injury and opened the scoring in the second period.
The Canucks, who were 0-for-7 with the man advantage Sunday in a 3-2 loss to Detroit, scored on their fourth power play chance Tuesday.
Wellwood, playing on the third line and power play, carried the puck out of the corner to the crease of goalkeeper Dan Ellis and banged it in during a goalmouth scramble.
His second goal was more artistic. He took the puck from a scrambled draw in the Nashville zone, stickhandled into the slot and beat Ellis with a shot that went off the post and in.
The opening goal followed a first period where each club had 11 shots, but the Predators had the best chances.
Jason Arnott hit the post 2:30 into the game. Then Luongo had to be sharp on a snap shot by Jerred Smithson and a backhand by Joel Ward when the puck deflected to him on the Canuck goalie's doorstep.
Ward had Luongo at his mercy while short-handed early in the second period but misfired with the goalie spread-eagled in his crease.
