Mike Brophy's Power Rankings: November 10, 2008

TW LW Team Our Take
1 Still on top of the Sportsnet Power Rankings; still waiting for Joe Thornton to kick it into gear.
5 Impressive wins over Vancouver and New Jersey is a nice tonic after losing to San Jose.
3 A hat trick by Chris Drury is a huge positive for a team that is winning, but is still searching for an identity.
11 Speaking of hat tricks, Blake Wheeler looks like the real deal having popped three (to give him six in 14 games) against Toronto.
8 With 14 points in 17 games, Chris Pronger is playing some of the best hockey of his career.
2 Losses to Columbus and Toronto should be a wake-up call for a team that is supposed to be the class of the East.
19 Nothing like three straight shutouts by the best goalie in the NHL to shoot you right up the charts.
12 Not to pull an Alexander Semin on him, but Sid has not been Sid the Kid in the early going. Blame it on injuries. That said, the Pens have rattled off three straight wins.
4 Five losses in seven games is hardly the direction coach Lindy Ruff had hoped his team would be heading at this stage of the season.
18 Captain Jonathan Toews finally scores his first goal of the season as the Blackhawks continue winning with four in a row.
13 Eric Staal leads Carolina forwards in ice time, but has just five goals and nine points in 15 games.
6 Four goals in three games doesn’t win you a lot of hockey games as the Wild found out, dropping two of their last three.
17 Alex Ovechkin has no goals in his last nine games and has only tallied in one of the 11 games he has skated in this season.
27 The move to acquire R.J. Umberger is finally starting to pay off. He had five goals in four games.
7 The Flames, who have dropped two straight, are still battling to find some consistency in their game.
14 Mikhail Grabovsky didn’t score in his first seven games with the Leafs, but seven goals now including six in his past four games.
9 The Devils are slumping and it’s not because Martin Brodeur is injured. They can’t score goals.
26 Rookie Kyle Turris will never forget his first trip home to Vancouver as an NHLer – the Coyotes made him a healthy scratch. Boo!
10 While the Oilers try to decide who to keep – Mathieu Garon or Dwayne Roloson – Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers just may be the answer to their goaltending woes.
29 Jason Williams pops four goals in three games for the suddenly hot Thrashers.
28 Anze Kopitar hasn’t been the scoring force many though he’d be, but the Kings have won two in a row regardless.
15 The acquisition of Steve Eminger hopefully gives the lightning the puck-moving defenceman it was looking for.
21 After scoring goals in five straight games, Dany Heatley is held in check as the Sens lose.
23 After three straight defeats Peter Budaj records his first shutout of the season in a win over Nashville.
24 The soap opera – and the losing – continues. Marty Turco still hasn’t found his game.
16 Defenceman Shea Weber continues his ascension among the best blueliners in the game with seven goals in 14 games.
25 David Booth scores all three goals in a 3-1 win over Anaheim.
20 Daniel Briere returns from sick bay, but the Flyers still lose their third in a row.
22 The party is over as the high-flying Blues have suddenly been grounded with five straight losses.
30 Doug Weight has been vilified in some circles for his hit on rookie Brandon Sutter, but giving credit where credit is due, he has 13 points in 14 games – not bad.
