OTTAWA -- Senators forward Dean McAmmond says he will not play in Thursday night's game against the Toronto Maple Leafs because of a cold.
McAmmond skated with the team Thursday morning but told reporters he would be unable to suit up for the game. The left-winger has one goal and two assists in 20 games this season with a plus-3 rating.
Meanwhile, Ryan Shannon has not been cleared by doctors to return to game action. He has been sidelined by a concussion since Nov. 13. He is able to participate in full practices and is currently symptom-free.
Shannon says he feels ready to return; however, he has yet to complete a neuro-psych exam. Once he passes that test he will be allowed to return to game action.
With McAmmond and Shannon both out, there is a chance that Christoph Schubert could play as a forward.
NOTES: The Senators have placed defenceman Luke Richardson on waivers as the team plans to send him to Binghamton of the AHL.
Ottawa had an agreement with the 39-year-old, who was re-signed to a one-year, $500,000 deal on Sept. 27, to send him down if he wasn't playing much. The 20-year veteran had no points in two games this year after starting 76 games (two goals, seven assists) with the Senators last season.
