Vancouver received a bit of good news surrounding goaltender Roberto Luongo on Saturday as the team captain will begin skating midweek, Sportsnet has learned.

Luongo has been out of the lineup since November 22 when he suffered a groin injury in a 3-1 win over Pittsburgh. Luongo aggravated the injury when he tried to skate two weeks ago.

Canucks' coach Alain Vigneault also revealed at the morning skate that it will be up to Mats Sundin to set a timetable on when he joins the team. Vigneault will treat Sundin's status like he would with a player returning from a long-term injury. The Swede will dictate when he is ready to play and how much he play when the time arrives.

Forward Taylor Pyatt will be out of the lineup indefinitely after suffering a broken foot in the loss to Edmonton. Pyatt was injured when he was hit by a Mattias Ohlund slapshot.
