Columbus Blue Jackets goaltender Steve Mason has mononucleosis but has been cleared by doctors to play through it, sources tell Sportsnet.

He is expected to play Tuesday night versus the St. Louis Blues.

Mason allowed three goals on eight shots Saturday night a 7-3 loss to the Dallas Stars and he was pulled from a game for the first time, midway through the first.

The 20-year-old rookie has started 18 straight games for Columbus and his play has garnered talk of MVP consideration.
